Alper Çuğun M.Sc. (1981, Amsterdam) is a designer, developer, theorist and publicist active on the focal point of technology, design and society.

Graduated from Delft, University of Technology with a Masters in Media and Knowledge Engineering he started TipiT, a crowd-funding startup that contributed to many online initiatives among which Wikileaks. After this he started Monster Swell, the first Dutch agency for data and visualization in which field he is among the leading thinkers and makers in the Netherlands.

Besides managing his own agency he duals as CTO at Hubbub, a leading Dutch game studio. At Hubbub he conceives and creates pervasive games for social and organizational change.

Alper is also on the board of Hack de Overheid (Hack the Government) a foundation that removes institutional friction by means of functional provocations. In that facility he has helped shape open data policy in the Netherlands, organized hackathons and created the Apps for Amsterdam contest among other initiatives.

His work is focused on employing procedurality in systems to enable people to organize and express themselves in novel ways. Alper presents on conferences within the Netherlands and abroad and he publishes irregularly in Dutch periodicals nrc.next, Vrij Nederland among others.

Alper Çuğun M.Sc. (1981, Amsterdam) is ontwerper, ontwikkelaar, theoreticus en publicist actief op het snijpunt van technologie, ontwerp en samenleving.

Net afgestudeerd van de Technische Universiteit van Delft als Media- en Kennistechnoloog begon hij TipiT, een crowd-funding startup die een bijdrage heeft geleverd aan vele online initiatieven waaronder Wikileaks. Hierna begon hij Monster Swell het eerste Nederlandse bureau voor data en visualisatie op welk gebied hij één van de vooraanstaande denkers en makers is.

Naast het voeren van zijn eigen bureau is hij ook actief als technoloog bij Hubbub, een leidende Nederlandse spelstudio. Bij Hubbub helpt Alper spellen te bedenken en te maken voor maatschappelijke en organisatie-verandering.

Verder is Alper ook bestuur van Hack de Overheid een organisatie die zich erop richt om met functionele provocaties institutionele frictie op te heffen. Met Hack de Overheid geeft Alper vorm aan het open data beleid van Nederland, organiseert evenementen voor programmeurs en is onder andere verantwoordelijk geweest voor de Apps for Amsterdam wedstrijd.

Inhoudelijk richt zijn werk zich op het gebruiken van proceduraliteit in systemen om mensen in staat te stellen zich op nieuwe manieren te uiten en te organiseren. Alper presenteert op conferenties in binnen- en buitenland en publiceert met onregelmatig in nrc.next, Vrij Nederland en andere periodieken.
