My 99% invisible book club of The Power Broker is continuing in bits of pieces. I may yet finish the book this year.

The parallels between the New York of the start of the 20th century and the Berlin of today have been coming out hard and fast, but this stuff from the last episode I listened to did strike me.

Traffic increased sixfold but there are no new roads that have been built. There was no way to cross the water because of the lack of bridges.

Sounds like Berlin to me but then again maybe I’m just overfitting on the eternal struggles of big cities. I do think in many ways Berlin and NYC are similar but that’s a post for another day.

It’s not just Mamdani, it’s also Jewish leaders like Rabbi Moishe Indig who make me ashamed to live in Berlin. In comparison, our local political and religious leaders are so very bad.

Hundred percent sure that if the same policy would be applied to Berlin most car traffic would evaporate from our streets here immediately. Most traffic in my neighborhood is people without really that much to do who could be doing something other than driving and drug dealers.
